The project will assist in transforming the scientific knowledge and the political will into development and implementation of prioritized interventions. These follow-up interventions will address priorities identified by countries during extensive consultations prior to the High-Level Forum in Geneva. Namely these priorities include i) strengthening of regulatory and legal frameworks and capacities for sustainable management of radioactive waste; ii) specific initiatives on cleaning up and re-cultivating of selected sites; iii) initiatives on community development, including increasing the awareness of the population and attracting social, environmental and economic investment; and iv) forging partnerships between the public and private sectors for the secondary processing of tailings.
