Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (August 4th, 2010) - Meeting of Coordination Committee on Achievement of Millennium Development Goals in the Kyrgyz Republic was held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Abdullaeva U.A.  Members of Coordination Committee include deputy heads of several Ministries, heads of Agencies and heads of Departments on Social Policy and International Relations of the President’s Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.

From cyclical recovery to economic tailspin

The winter crisis and drought of 2008-2009 revealed the fragility of the rapid GDP growth Kyrgyzstan reported during 2007-2008. Sharp reductions in winter electricity and heat supplies for households, schools, health-care institutions, and commercial enterprises led to significant declines in industrial output and growing concerns about access to public services.

When combined with high or rising food and energy prices and falling remittances for vulnerable households (see Table 1 below), these non-traditional threats to household welfare blurred the distinction between development programming and humanitarian/emergency responses, for the government and the international community.

Campaign to kick off during the 2010 FIFA World Cup^TM

Tokyo, Japan, 24 March 2010―Sony Corporation is partnering with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to bolster the global fight to end poverty by 2015, with a special focus on the campaign to reverse the spread of HIV and AIDS.

In 2009 Civil Society Support Centers Association organized a research for establishing a parliament system to assist achieving MDGs in four key areas.  The research was supported by EU, UNDP and other international organizations.

Osh, Kyrgyzstan (December 28, 2009) – “Adilet” Self-Help Group Association established a center for women entrepreneurship of in Kok-Bel village of Nookat rayon, Osh province.  The center has carpet weaving, wool carding and sewing shops as well as computer hall.  UNDP Poverty Reduction Programme allocated grant funds amounting to 152,000 KGS. This project was initiated a group of women from Kok-Bel village headed by Kalys Nurueva.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (December14, 2009) – UNDP Poverty Reduction Programme has launched “Localization of the Millennium Development Goals in Naryn oblast” Project.  This is the first project aimed at adapting eight development goals at oblast, rayon, aiyl okrug and village levels, that are designed to address extreme poverty reduction, achievement of universal primary education, promotion of gender equality and women empowerment, child mortality reduction, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop global partnership.  These goals have its indicators on global and country levels.

UNDP Program “Support to the Government in Response to HIV in the KR” suggests improving legislation to strengthen mass media response to HIV epidemic.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (Oct. 29, 2009) – Amendments to media and advertising legislation aimed at improving well-being of the nation and addressing state and social interests will be discussed on November 2 at the round table in Park Hotel, Bishkek.

Organizer of the event, UNDP Program on HIV/AIDS, invited representatives from Presidential Administration, Government Office, Parliament, key ministries, civil society organizations, mass media and donor community. Participants will discuss amendments, which suggest a better spell-out of the role of mass media and public advertising in educating and promoting healthy lifestyle.

Бишкек, Кыргызстан (23 октября 2009 г.) – В государственной филармонии им. Токтогула Сатылганова города Бишкек проект ПРООН «Профессиональное образование для беспризорных детей в Кыргызской Республике» совместно с Государственным агентством  по профессионально-техническому образованию при Правительстве Кыргызской Республики провели акцию под названием «Каждый ребенок имеет право-на счастливое детство». Мероприятие было   посвящено Международному Дню борьбы  с бедностью и к 20-й годовщине со  Дня принятия  Конвенции ООН о правах ребенка, который будет  отмечатся в ноябре 2009 года. Поэтому проведением  данной акции организаторы надеялись привлечь внимание государственных структур и общественности  Кыргызстана к решению проблем именно детской бедности.
