Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (February 3, 2012) – From 30 January through 3 February 2012, a delegation of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) visited Kyrgyzstan. Main goal of the visit is monitoring of implementation of the Global Fund grants and meeting with partners. The delegation consisted of Maria Kirova, Head of the GFATM Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Sandra Irbe, GFATM Portfolio Manager for Eastern Europe and Central Asia  and Vitaly Jumagaliev, Senior Civil Society Specialist of the GFATM Partnership Department.

Бишкек, Кыргызстан (31 января, 2012 г.) – 29 января в доме ООН состоялась встреча представителей учреждений гражданского общества и группы управления грантом Глобального фонда по борьбе со СПИДом, туберкулезом и малярией ПРООН (ГФСТМ). Основной целью встречи являлось установление консенсуса и усиление сотрудничества в реализации мероприятий в рамках гранта по компоненту СПИД.

570 young people of Osh and Jalal-Abad provinces were trained 12 Vocational Schools on the most demanded professions during April-July 2011. They were unemployed youth from poor families aged 16-28, living in distant villages and areas affected by the ethnic conflict in the south of Kyrgyzstan in June 2010. The training was organized in by UNDP, UNICEF and UNHCHR within a joint project “Youth, Livelihood and Peace Promotion”, which was initiated in response to the crisis situation.  The project was funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund and the Government of the Russian Federation.

On July 19, 2011 during a certificates award ceremony in vocational school #12 a young lady, who was standing among other invited guests, caught eyes of spectators. When she stepped up and delivered her congratulating speech, graduates of the school recognized her as a graduate of the last year’s courses. That day Aziza Suleimanova took part in the ceremony as an employer and hired two girls who completed hairdresser courses to work in her own beauty salon “Elina”.

Сегодня в Посольстве Российской Федерации в Бишкеке состоялась встреча, посвященная результатам сотрудничества Российской Федерации и системы ООН в Кыргызской Республике по оказанию содействия в 2011 году в постконфликтном восстановлении республики. В ходе встречи также рассматривались планы сотрудничества на ближайшую перспективу.

Во встрече принимали участие Чрезвычайный и Полномочный Посол Российской Федерации в Кыргызской Республике Валентин Власов и дипломаты Посольства, Постоянный Координатор системы ООН в КР Александр Аванесов, Руководитель Аппарата Президента КР Жанторо  Сатыбалдиев, Министр иностранных дел КР Руслан Казакбаев и главы учреждений системы Организации Объединенных Наций в КР.

November 3-4 – EU-UNDP New Legal Framework Project in partnership with OSCE/ODIHR, Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan, OHCHR, Venice Commission and GIZ assisted in organizing several meetings to help improve the work of the Council on Selection of Judges and work out solutions for overcoming problems faced the Council.  Several international experts took part in the meetings.  Part of these activities was an educational training on “Strengthening of independence of judicial system through procedure of selection of judges” for members of the Council and its Secretariat as well as national experts.  Five international experts from Russia, Estonia, Denmark, Lithuania and two national specialists were invited for the training.  Learn more from Gulmira Mamatkerimova, Project Manager ( gm@dgov.undp.kg).

October 6 – The Steering Committee on Capacity Development Facility (CDF) project was held to coordinate the activities implemented under the project.  Key partners of the project: senior officials of the President’s Office, Prime Minister’s Office, representatives of Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan as well as DGP discussed completed and planned activities of the project. Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (November 23, 2011) - The Global Fund project providing material and technical support to sanitary-epidemiological laboratories of Kyrgyzstan.  Currently, renovation works are carried out in 20 labs at the total cost of USD 217,295.  The works should be completed by the end of November 2011.

Events that occurred in June 2010 in southern Kyrgyzstan shocked not only citizens of the country, but the whole world as well.  Russians were among the ones who responded first and provided assistance in restoring peace, reconciliation and made a back-breaking contribution.  In October 2010 the Russian Government for the first time allocated $5 million through the UN system in the Kyrgyz Republic.  The funds were allocated to several UN agencies for projects aimed at stabilizing everyday life through support of healthcare, food security, capacity building of the State Directorate on reconstruction and development of cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad, as well as for restoration of public infrastructure.

Sept-Oct – Around 200 local councilors took part in trainings in Bishkek city (Chui province) and in every province centers.  The training module was based on international materials adapted to Kyrgyzstan.  Basic competencies such as local policy formulation, decision-making, acting in the best interest of local communities were discussed during the trainings.  Moreover, participants also learned about representative role and oversight function of a councilor especially regarding executive bodies’ activities (Aiyl Okmotu).  The mode of teaching was interactive with a large number of different cases taken from everyday life of local councils, role-plays and experience sharing exercise as local councilors were coming from different districts.  Local councilors expressed a great interest to the subject and found the training very interesting and useful.
