Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (July 13, 2006) - Today at the Government House the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Felix Kulov held an official meeting with the UNDP in Kyrgyzstan Resident Representative a.i., Arturo Hein.
At the meeting the further high level cooperation between UNDP in Kyrgyzstan and Government, the efficiency of which is constantly important as a result of joint effort including implementation of the UNDP and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Country Programme Action Plan for 2005-2010 were discussed.
In new political and social-economic situation in the Kyrgyz Republic, UNDP is taking steps to increase support to the Kyrgyz Government for strengthening practical trend and achieving specific results of the reforms being taken. First of all, these results are linked with increase of people’s welfare, economic growth and development of democratic governance and achievement of Millennium Development Goals.
It was noted the possibility of cooperation in the filed of preparation and implementation of new Country Development Strategy for Kyrgyzstan.
The Country Programme Document (CPD) and Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) address four development priority needs of the Kyrgyzstan: poverty reduction through sustainable development; promoting good/democratic governance; strengthening human security ( HIV/AIDS Prevention; Conflict Prevention; Disaster Management);enhancing regional cooperation (BOMCA/CADAP, Silk Road Regional Programme, Moscow House, etc.). Continued attention will be paid to: gender equality; information and communications technology (ICT).
The total volume of UNDP support to Kyrgyzstan for 2005-2010 will increase 3 times in comparison with the last period and the total amount will be $ USD 58,4 millions. All these funds will be provided on grant basis. Main donors and funding partners: European Commission, Global Environment Facility, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, Government of Netherlands, Government of Belgium, Global Fund on AIDS, TB and Malaria.
