Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (September 1, 2010) – During 25 – 30 August 2010, there was a short-term mission arrived at the invitation of the UN Development Programme headed by Mr. Stjepan Mesic, Former President of the Republic of Croatia. Mr. Mesic has been twice elected as the President of the Republic of Croatia according to the country’s Constitution and took this post from February 2000 till February 2010.
The purpose of the mission was providing consultations and support to the UNDP Office in the Kyrgyz Republic in implementation of diversified and integrated support provided to the country by UN Development Programme in the current situation for its soonest stabilization and return to the path of sustainable human development.
The mission had a number of meetings with the Presdent of the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. R. I. Otunbaeva, First Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. A. M. Muraliev, and other representatives of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
At the invitation of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the members of the mission took part in the official ceremony of start-up of the first aggregate of Kambarata Hydro-Power Station – 2, and visited Issyk Kul lake, where they were shown the possibilities of development of the touristic sector.
The recommendations of the mission will be used by UNDP in implementation of programmes and projects in the Kyrgyz Republic.
