Introducing Gender Mainstreaming into Civil Service
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (March 25, 2009) – For staff of some ministries of the Kyrgyz Republic there is a two-day seminar entitled “Introducing gender mainstreaming into civil service” (March 25-27). Seminar is held within project of Presidential Administration of the KR, Government Office of the KR and UNDP “Promotion of Women to Civil Service and Politics” (supported by Swedish International Development Agency /SIDA).

Goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge and quality of work of employees of ministries and agencies in introducing gender approaches into civil service. Agenda of the workshop is targeted for the beginning level of participants in understanding concept of gender equality. Workshop program and materials are developed by experts from Swedish Institute of Public Administration.
The workshop is held by experts from Management Academy under the President of the KR and Civil Service Agency, who were trained by experts from the Swedish Institute of civil service in 2008 within the framework of our project.

It is interesting to note that Ministry of Labor and Social Development headed by woman was the most active in providing opportunity for its employees to increase their knowldege on gender mainsreaming into civil service. Other participants of the seminar include Minsitry of Justice, Minsitry of Economic Development and Trade and State Agency on Environmental Protection and Forestry of the KR.

Main goal of this project is to create favorable environment to implement gender-sensitive public policy in public structures according to recommendations of the UN Committee on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

Gender equality and equal opportunities  are one of basic principles in building capacity of civil servants and increasing its transparency and orientation to provide social services to people.
