Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (February 25, 2009) – From February 25 to 27 in Bishkek there will be seminars for representatives of political parties on strengthening gender approaches in their work and opening/improving the work of women’s wings within those parties. This event is held within the joint project of the Presidential Administration, Government and United Nations Development Programme on “Promotion of Women in Civil Service and Politics” supported by Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
Political parties are becoming an important political structure of society and subjects of political processes, including in the area of protection of human rights and gender equality. During the seminar it is planned to learn about experiences and strategies of promoting gender development in Swedish political parties. Also the program includes presentation and discussion of results of gender analysis of political parties of the KR and Country Gender Assessment on participation of men and women in local elections in October of 2008.
Representatives of three political parties – Social Democratic party of Kyrgyzstan, Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan and Socialist party “Ata Meken” will take part in these seminars. It is expected to develop strategies of creating and improving women’s wings and prepare mechanism of their implementation through gender analysis of political programs, internal structures and management system.
