Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (May 25, 2012) - United Nations Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic of Alexander Avanessov met with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev.
President Atambayev briefly told about policies currently implemented in the country and plans for the coming years, aimed at consolidating stability, improving standards of living, strengthening peace, ethnic harmony and democracy as well as fighting corruption. The President expressed his appreciation of cooperation with the UN and UNDP, important and timely assistance to the country. He highlighted that this assistance is a selfless and significant contribution to the tasks associated with the development priorities of the country.
Parties shared their views on a wide range of issues related to further strengthening of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and UN and UNDP. In particular, they discussed ways to strengthen and expand regional cooperation between Central Asian countries for socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan, development of the southern region of the country, planned measures to better reflect views of Kyrgyz citizens in formulation and implementation of policy priorities, healthcare, integrated area development and other aspects of cooperation.
During the meeting parties stressed the importance of coordinated work and close partnership of the UN system with government bodies, civil society and donor community in most priority areas of sustainable human development in the country.
Specific steps will follow the agreements reached during the meeting.
