Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (August 26, 2010) – Certificate award Ceremony of the graduates of three months courses organized by UNDP took place at Vocation School #95. Minister of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Aigul Ryskulova and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Pradeep Sharma participated in the event.
About 200 people have been trained in this Vocational School, majority of which are residents of the new Ak-Bosogo, Kolmo and Kalys Ordo suburban residential areas in Pervomay District of Bishkek city. Enrolment and age of students varied, but all of them shared the desire to get professional knowledge, which then can help them to find jobs. Experienced instructors of the school within 3 months taught students sewing and tailoring skills. All products produced by students during the study period (blouses, pants, skirts, gowns etc.) will be transferred to the social care institutions of Osh and Djalal-Abad city.
These courses were organized by UNDP Poverty Reduction Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Agency on Vocational Education after April and June events in order to support unemployed youth and socially vulnerable people. Short term courses were conducted at Vocational Schools #4, #5, #100 and #95 of Bishkek city on professions demanded in the market such as: electrogaswelders, finishers, carpenters, plasterers, tillers and sewer-tailors.
400 students attended the courses receiving from 100 to 200 soms of stipend ($4) per day as a compensation for transportation and lunch. Currently UNDP is launching similar courses on demanded professions in Osh and Djalal-Abad cities, as well as in district centers of Kara-Suu and Uzgen Districts of Osh province, and in Bazar-Korgon District of Djalal-Abad province.
