MDG Logo Contest Winners Announced

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (July 9, 2010) – Award ceremony of the National MDG Logo Design Contest winners took place today in the UN House with participation of Mr. Neal Walker, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative.  The contest was conducted within the MDG Localization in Naryn Province Project of the UNDP Poverty Reduction Programme from January 15th to March 15th 2010.

The goal of the project is to support the efforts of the government and local civil society institutions to achieve MDGs.  Relevance of each logo to a specific MDG and presence of national features were among the main criteria of the contest.  Designers, design studios, artists and many interested people participated in the contest.  Selection Committee unanimously chose the work of Alelksey Lysogorov, a well-known designer, out of all 27 works submitted.

National MDG Logos that won in the contest will symbolize and brand Kyrgyzstan in development and will contribute to better promotion of MDGs in this country through attracting attention of various decision makers to the issues related to poverty reduction, education, gender equality, maternal and child mortality, HIV/AIDS, environment and global partnership for development.

The theme of national patterns was chosen for MDG Logos in Kyrgyzstan, each graphic reflecting one of the 8 MDGs. The stylized designs are based on the images apprehensible to both the international community and the local population. It is important that the logos unique to Kyrgyzstan and easily associated with the country.

In September 2000 on the UN Millennium Summit country leaders agreed to establish goals and targets for combating poverty, hunger deceases, illiteracy environmental problems and discrimination against women.  Today these goals are on the basis of activities at the global activities, called “Development goals formulated in Millennium Declarations » (MDG).  All 191 countries – Members of UN including Kyrgyzstan committed themselves to achieve these goals.
