Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (August 4th, 2010) - Meeting of Coordination Committee on Achievement of Millennium Development Goals in the Kyrgyz Republic was held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Abdullaeva U.A.  Members of Coordination Committee include deputy heads of several Ministries, heads of Agencies and heads of Departments on Social Policy and International Relations of the President’s Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Mr. Pradeep Sharma – UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of UN Agencies, UNDP projects and programmes also took part in the Meeting.

Representatives of Oblast and District State Administrations, ayil okmotu and NGOs in Naryn Oblast were invited to the Meeting of the Committee.

Agenda of the Meeting included three areas:

1. Presentation of the second report “On Progress in Achievement of MDGs in the Kyrgyz Republic” (second edition).
2. On implementation of Project “Localization of MDGs in Naryn Oblast” within UNDP Poverty Reduction Programme.
3. On preparation of analytic materials and draft speech of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Otunbaeva R. I. on achievement of MDG in the Kyrgyz Republic at the Session of UN General Assembly.

Vice-Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Chairman of the Committee Ms. Abdullaeva U.A. has noted importance of this event in prior to the UN General Assembly Session, which will start its work on September 20, 2010 and highlighted necessity of preparing quality materials for participation of the Kyrgyz delegation at the work of the UN General Assembly Session.

Mr. Pradeep Sharma, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in his speech has provided high assessment of conducted work on preparation of the second report “On Progress in Achievement of MDGs in the Kyrgyz Republic”.  He has also informed participants of the Meeting, that progress in MDG achievement in Kyrgyzstan, will be presented in the report of the UN General Secretary during plenary session among 30 selected countries.

During discussions, heads of Uchkun, Minbulak and Kazybek ayil okmotu, Deputy Head of the Naryn Oblast State Administration Ms. Esenamanov S.K. have raised issues on completing construction of social sites in the region, as well as provided high assessment of UNDP Poverty Reduction Programme’s Project “Localization of MDG in Naryn Oblast” implementation results, highlighted problems and ways for successful project completion until the end of the year.  Participants of discussion have expressed their wishes on utilizing this experience in other regions of the country.

Upon completion of the Meeting of Coordination Committee on MDGs achievement Ministry of Economic Regulation of the Kyrgyz Republic was tasked to develop common monitoring system of MDG indicators, providing linkages between indicators at the national, oblast and local levels, as well as to prepare analytic materials for participation of the Kyrgyz delegation in the work of UN General Assembly Session.
