Round Table “Millennium Development Goals in Kyrgyzstan: achievements and perspectives”
A round table discussion of the MDG progress in Kyrgyzstan will take place in the Golden Dragon Hotel on March 15 at 13.30.

In 2009 Civil Society Support Centers Association organized a research for establishing a parliament system to assist achieving MDGs in four key areas.  The research was supported by EU, UNDP and other international organizations.

The discussion participants will be able to see the MDG research results as well as provide their comments to optimize the progress towards MDGs in Kyrgyzstan.

Results of the research as well as the comments from the round table discussion will be used for the report on MDG progress review to be presented at the International Summit in September 2010.

In September 2000, members of UN, including Kyrgyzstan signed the Millennium Declaration, which demonstrated their commitment to eight goals listed in the Millenium Developmetn Goals.  Within these goals, Kyrgyzstan is trying to reach sustainable human development through provision of equal access to education and healthcare, gender equality and ecological sustainability.

Note: The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight objectives that respond to the world’s main development challenges, which are to be achieved by 2015. The MDGs are drawn from the actions and targets contained in the Millennium Declaration, which was adopted by 189 nations and signed by 147 heads of states and governments during the UN Millennium Summit in September 2000.

The eight MDGs break down into 18 quantifiable targets that are measured by 48 indicators.

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development

The roundtable discussion is supported by the UNDP-EC Parliament Project.
