Strengthening Coordination of Response to Emergency Situation in the Kyrgyz Republic
Representatives of Kyrgyz Republic government, international, donor and non-government organizations will get acquainted with the results of the UN joint programme Strengthening Coordination of Response to Emergency Situation in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (February 24, 2010) – Partners working the sphere of emergency situations response in the Kyrgyz Republic will gather in the conference hall of Asia Trade Company business center for a coordination meeting.

Main goals of the meeting are revision of the results of the UN-Kyrgyz Republic joint project, introduction to established emergency response mechanisms and discussion of further direction of the project.

It is expected that more than 80 representatives of government, international, donor and non-governmental organizations will participate at the meeting.

The conference is initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Emergency Situations in cooperation with the UN System in the Kyrgyz Republic.

It is taking place in light of several events like completion of the project’s first phase in February 2010 and the need for continuation in the sphere of disaster risk management, including further strengthening of emergency response coordination and assisting to the Government in setting up the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Discussion of the future direction of the joint project will help to determine priorities of the next project and improve partner’s efficiency of coordination in disaster response and risk reduction.
